Law Office of
Jeffrey H. Jordan, Attorney

Jeff’s practice focuses on probate (the judicial process by which a deceased person’s property is transferred to heirs and beneficiaries), estate planning (trusts and wills and ways to avoid probate), trust administration (assisting trustees), beneficiary issues and claims, property issues, and related mediation, arbitration, and litigation matters, as well as business and transactional matters.

Jeff recently represented a client who prevailed in a four-day trial in Alameda County Superior Court contesting a poorly drafted estate plan that excluded her in favor of more distant relatives. That experience renewed Jeff’s commitment to drafting estate plans and advising administrators of trusts and estates in probate with special care to minimize the chances of future legal disputes.

Areas of Practice

PROBATE, ESTATE PLANNING, & TRUSTS

Dealing with the aftermath of a loved one’s incapacity or death is challenging enough without the stresses of navigating the legal challenges as well. My sensitive, individualized approach to helping you through these challenges is designed to give you peace of mind while also optimizing results in a cost-effective manner. I educate and guide you as well as do much of the heavy legal lifting. Most importantly, I listen.

I apply the same sensitivity and attention to detail assisting you in your estate planning, so you are prepared for your own possible incapacity and eventual passing.

Services includes probate, court petitions, wills, trusts, trust administration, powers of attorney, deeds, affidavits, help with property sales, and other related proceedings and documents.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION & LITIGATION

Mediation, arbitration, and litigation are the three main ways people resolve legal disputes. I’m pleased to help you resolve your dispute, preferring to mediate disagreements (either as your advocate or a neutral mediator) before resorting to arbitration or litigation. I'm equally comfortable prosecuting or defending your case in court when needed.

Before setting out on my own, I clerked two years for a federal judge and worked in the litigation department of a large law firm focusing on white collar matters, internal investigations, and government enforcement actions. My experience working for a judge has taught me not to play dirty, but to play honestly and earn the trust of the court.

TRANSACTIONS, AGREEMENTS, & NEGOTIATION

I began my professional career working on multi-million dollar transactions, mostly related to finance, documented by a wide array of complex, interlocking legal instruments requiring a keen attention to detail. I learned early on that to successfully help a client with a transaction, one must carefully listen and learn the business and motivations of the parties, anticipate the unexpected and expected disputes, and act in good faith. The best disputes are those avoided by well negotiated understandings and agreements between parties made in good faith.
